Millions of Americans cope with dental anxiety. They’ll tense up just thinking about an ordinary exam; the idea of a more complicated procedure, like a dental implant, can send their stress level through the roof. Sedation dentistry from Blaisdell Family Dentistry in Boise can get them through it.
Dental implants are actually a rather straightforward procedure. A titanium post, which is the actual implant, is inserted into the jaw. Over the next two to three months it fuses with the bone. Once that happens it becomes a solid foundation for an artificial tooth.
Placing the titanium post may be rather straightforward, but for some patients, the thought is almost unbearable. Sedation can get them through it.
We offer three types: nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, and general anesthesia.
- Nitrous oxide has been used in dentistry for more than a century, with great success. It is better known as laughing gas. It takes effect quickly, wears off quickly, and puts you in a deeply relaxed state.
- Oral conscious sedation involves taking a prescribed sedative an hour or so before the procedure. You remain awake, but in a deep state of relaxation. You need someone to escort you to and from our office.
- General anesthesia is the only sedation option that puts you completely to sleep. We work in-office with a licensed dental anesthesiologist. You will need a ride to and from our office with this option, too.
